These mylar bags can hold 1 gallon or 1 #10 can's worth of freeze dried food. Freeze dried food in mylar bags is much lighter to carry in an emergency that canned food or food stored in jars. You also don't have to worry about mylar bags falling and breaking. Store your bags at temperatures at or below 70 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the contents for longest period. Seven mil thick mylar bags will do a great job of blocking sunlight compared to thinner mylar and glass jars. These bags will need to be sealed with a nice sealer. We got our 12 inch sealer from Harvest Right.
Harvest Right also sells the smaller 8 inch by 12 inch mylar bags that hold 1/2 gallon freeze dried food.
